His job was to drive a large bow-fronted horse-drawn van known as "four in hand"(four large horses driven by hand). He was kicked by a horse. In later life the injury to the shin was to bring about an ulcerated leg, which meant frequent trips to Brook Street Infirmary.He was a Farrier in a Smithy shop, tending to the needs of horses. 1921 He was an Engineer (Fields The candle makers).in Westminster Bridge Road. 1922 Gas Labourer 1939 Gas Engineer , retort worker for Metropolitan Gas Company. Retired on a pension on 7s 5d per week. He resided at 56 Luscombe Street London SW8 on 10/8/1942. He died on 6/4/1953 in 12 Basil House , Wilcox Road, South Lambeth.
